Eddie Cochran was on tour with Gene Vincent in early 1960, and after playing Bristol Hippodrome, on Saturday the 16th April, set out in a Ford Consul Taxi, at night towards London, in preparation for his flight home to the States the following day from Heathrow.

They, Eddie Cochran, Sharon Sheeley (Eddie's Girlfriend) Gene Vincent and in the front, Patrick Thompkins were travelling on what was then the main route through, the A4. At Rowden Hill, at approximately 11:50pm, the taxi driver lost control, and Eddie Cochran died from head injuries, sustained in the crash, the following day, at St Martin's Hospital, Bath.
